Adam and Iblis.
A true story told in the Holy Quran.
Ibrah to be learnt and practiced.
And [mention] when We said to the angels, "Prostrate before Adam"; so they prostrated, except for Iblees. He refused and was arrogant and became of the disbelievers. ( 2 : 34)
Why did Iblis doesn't want to prostrate to Adam a.s? The answer is clear, his pride and ego made him. And that one act made Iblis became one of the disbelievers until the Day of Judgement.
Iblis claimed that he was made up of fire while Adam was only made up of clay. How can clay even be compared to fire? What nonsense!
Ok, truthfully speaking, between fire and clay, what would you and I will be afraid of?
Of course, the answer to that question would be fire. But... if we think about it, clay can put out the fire, right? Heh.
One might ask, before that incident, Iblis was the most obedient creature, the most knowledgeable of them all. But how can Iblis disobey Allah that time?
Truly, disobedience leads the most loyal, and knowledgeable ones to destruction. Just like Iblis.
Let's reflect ourselves. No matter how much goodness we did, how many times we give sadaqah, how many good deeds we did, it is worthless for as long as our hearts don't really bow to Allah. No matter who we are, whether we are the most intelligent of them all, or whether we are the most pious of them all, it will all lead to self-destruction if there is even slightest riya' and pride.
Because, in the end, all of what we claim to have, only truly belongs to Allah. The knowledge, the creative mind, the beautifully organized body. He's the one who created it all. Not you, not me and of course not them. Only Allah and Allah only. It's His copyright, don't you agree? =)
My dear brothers and sisters,
There's more to this story. It didn't end here.
After Adam and Hawa ate the forbidden fruit, they were chased out of the Heaven and sent down to Earth. Yeah, they ate the forbidden fruit after listening to Iblis' saying. And because of that, their aurah were exposed. That was when they realized that they had commit a mistake.
Right after that, Adam and Hawa immediately repent their actions and ask for Allah's forgiveness.
Then Adam received from his Lord [some] words, and He accepted his repentance. Indeed, it is He who is the Accepting of repentance, the Merciful. (2 : 37)
And.. yeah, Allah accepted their repentance of course. He's the Most Gracious and Most Forgiving after all.
No matter how many sins we make, no matter how big they were up to the point where we ourselves were feeling so ashamed to even face Allah, we should turn to Him. Yes, Allah is the One we should turn to. He knows us, and He knows what we're up to. Allah has been watching us, for days and nights, waiting for us to reach Him. Allah is there, ready to forgive us as long as we repent and turn to Him.
If we don't turn to Him at that instance, do we want to face Him in the Hereafter and be one of those whom Allah hates the most?
No, no can do. I don't want to end up like that!
So, what should we do? Well, don't ask me. You know what to do, right?
What are we waiting for? Let's go, guys. The end of the journey will come to an end soon. Let's make the fullest out of it.
Wallahua'lam.
